Hoppenstedt study "Women in Management": Percentag of women in leading positions in Germany continues to grow, but on the absolute top positions women are still scarce
For 15 years now, Hoppenstedt Firmeninformationen is conducting periodic studies on the percentage of women in the first and second tier of top management in German companies. The latest study shows that the number of women in management grows especially with small and medium sized companies. But large corporations and listed companies are still steered primarly by men. And: The eastern German states show far more women in leading position than the western German states.
Since 1995, the amount of women in the first and second tier of management of German companies has more than doubled from 8.17 percent to 19.56 percent. In top management (1st tier) of large corporations, this number has only increased from 3.2 to 5.9 percent. The situation is even worse with very large corporations that have an annual revenue of more than 1 billion Euro: There the number of female top executives is only 3.5 percent. Public companies listed in one of the DAX segments only have 3.15 female top managers. And within the DAX30 companies - the premier league of the German economy - only one woman was found in all boards of directors.
Basis for this research is the Hoppenstedt company database that lists the 300,000 largest German corporations with more than 1 million decision makers from the first and second tier of management. More information: www.firmendatenbank.de
